What a coffered ceiling is
Coffering is a grid of sunken panels, called coffers, framed by beams. Types of coffered ceilings include the classic box coffered ceiling with deep square or rectangular panels, the beam coffered ceiling with wider timber-style members and the flat coffered ceiling, which is a low-profile grid with shallow panels. A modern coffered ceiling uses simple lines and few moldings, while a traditional one adds crown molding ceiling trim and layered profiles. Coffered ceiling design is set by the room height, so a simple coffered ceiling or low profile coffered ceiling suits lower rooms.
Foam coffered ceiling systems
Each element is CNC-cut from high-density EPS and covered with a polyurea hard coat. Coffered ceiling panels weigh a fraction of wood or plaster, which makes installation quicker and does not load the ceiling structure. Beams can be finished as painted white, stained wood or a contrasting color, and the system can include integrated crown and trim. Coffered ceiling lighting is easy to plan: recessed lights, LED strips or pendants can sit in the coffers.
